On Monday, April 19, Limerick rapper YSB Roki will be releasing his brand-new track ‘Tapout’ featuring fellow artist Luke Culhane.

YSB Roki describing the new single, said, “The single is just a feel-good, almost Rockstar, hyper pop song. It was something new for me as it’s a song that isn’t like the others.”

Luke explained the process of making the song saying, “Tap out is a single myself and Roki have been working on for the last couple months, Roki came to the studio one and we were playing around with some guitar samples and we eventually got to the one you can hear in the song and it went from there. I had the beat finished in 30 mins and Roki tracked his demo after that. The next few months after that we’re spent making changes, rerecording, restructuring and clearings samples! The longest part of the process was probably the mixing, we spent five days straight mixing the record.”

YSB Roki began his journey into music with a couple of friends in an Ennis studio freestyling over a YouTube beat, but he didn’t really break into music for another eight or nine months when he decided to give up everything he had started in Ennis and move back to Limerick to give his all to his music career.

The first song he released was ‘Balling’, and this song jump-started his desire to be a performer and songwriter. This song was instrumental in him becoming part of a young musical collective in Limerick that includes music producer Luke Culhane, rapper Out 24, singer and rapper Elm Park Elmo, rapper Young Jest and singer GER.

When asked what advice YSB Roki would give to new musicians, he said, “Be yourself and don’t be afraid to branch out and separate yourself from your idols. It will benefit you more in the long run. Find yourself early and try to realise not every song is going to be gold.”

YSB Roki met Luke last October, and immediately they began working on music together, including his last track, ‘Green Danger’. Luke made the beat to the new single ‘Tapout’ and mixes and produces all YSB Roki’s songs.

In 2019, Luke began to work in the music industry as a music producer. He has released music videos and produced songs with some rising music sensations in the Limerick scene. Luke has a small home studio and records all his music there. When Luke was asked what advice he would give to new producers, he said, “Listen to a lot of music from all genres and just do it. I just listen to music and replicate it, and I watch tutorials. It takes months and months of messing around with the software before you can ever try and make a half-decent beat. Just stick with it.”

‘Tapout’ is available to pre-save now before being released on Monday, April 19.
