Zoe Coyle from TikTok to the Red Carpet for Hamilton Premiere

Limerick’s Zoe Coyle has seen her viral Hamilton trend on TikTok take her to the red carpet for a Hamilton premiere in New York City

Zoe Coyle, a 16-year-old Limerick girl, has seen a TikTok she made in the early hours of the morning at her grandmother’s house kickstart a viral trend receiving millions of views and earning her a trip to the Red Carpet Premiere of the filmed Hamilton production in New York.

At about 2:30 am in her grandmother’s house, wearing her grandmother’s coat, a mascara beard, and a toilet tissue ruffle, Zoe made her TikTok, thankfully not waking her grandmother and having to explain what she was doing.

Zoe said what started out small quickly grew into a viral trend. She said, “ It just started getting a lot of likes, and I didn’t think it would become a trend, but people started commenting, saying, ‘Oh my God, we have to do this trend. We have to recreate this.’ And I really wanted to see all the people’s recreations. So I was like, ‘tag me in your recreations.’ And then I started seeing hundreds of people doing it.”

Zoe says she couldn’t keep up with the number of people recreating the trend, but was blown away when some of the Hamilton cast members jumped on the trend while on the Red Carpet, and Lin-Manuel Miranda himself recreated the video opposite his Madame Tussauds wax figure.

A fan of Hamilton the musical, created by Lin-Manuel Miranda, Zoe Coyle created a TikTok out of boredom late one night lip-syncing the musical’s song, “Best of Wives and Best of Women” while dressed as the Hamilton character and climbing out of her grandmother’s window.

Little did the young Limerick girl know the video would kickstart a global trend, gaining millions of views and being recreated thousands of times, and impressively catching the eye of the Hamilton creator, who also made his own version of the trend.

Speaking on Ireland AM recently, Zoe explained, “ I was dressed up as Hamilton because I was just really bored and I really liked the musical, so I was like, ‘okay, I could probably put together this outfit with what I have around me’. Then I was scrolling through TikTok, looking for audio to use to make a video. And I came across that one, and I remembered the idea I had of him, trying to sneak away from his wife. And I was like, ‘okay, I’m gonna make a video of this because it’ll just be funny’.”

Before her viral fame, Zoe had just 30 followers, and now with almost 30,000 followers, she is now known globally by TikTok and Hamilton fans and has been interviewed by international newspapers such as the New York Times.

A student at Presentation Secondary School, Sexton Street, Zoe says she’s still focused on her studies, although she could not turn down the opportunity and invitation to attend the premiere of the filmed Broadway production, getting her chance to meet the cast while walking the Red Carpet at the Delacorte Theatre in New York.
