Art Appreciation Programme – Presentation by Dr Billy Shortall

We are delighted to invite you to our Art Appreciation Programme, on a first come basis with a presentation by Dr Billy Shortall on Thursday 9th November at 7pm in The Kilmurry Arts and Heritage Centre.
The World Congress of the Irish Race was held in Paris in January 1922. The government used the occasion to announce the new State to the world. Primarily a cultural event, it presented the grand narrative of Irish cultural history and a self- defined official identity for the new Irish State to an international audience. This Art Appreciation Programme lecture will explore the 1922 events in Paris; public lectures on Irish life; music concerts; evenings of Irish theatre; and will focus on the month-long art exhibition which was the central element. The seminal Exposition D’Art Irlandais displayed three hundred works of Irish art and arts and crafts.
