Art History and Appreciation Lecture Series

Rachel Healy, PhD candidate with the School of Art History and Cultural Policy will lead a 12 week series of one hour lectures at the Red Door Gallery, Newcastle West starting Wednesday 24th January at 7.30pm.
The survey course offers a valuable exploration of the rich tapestry of artistic movements and periods from the Gothic period to the present day and is suitable for individuals with varying levels of familiarity with art history.
It encompasses diverse themes, including the Renaissance, Mannerism, the Baroque, Rococo, Neoclassicism, Romanticism, Impressionism, Modern and Contemporary art, as well as highlighting the contributions of Irish artists. Rachel spent her early childhood in Newcastle West and returned to the town during the pandemic.
She has a BA and first-class honours MA in Art History from University College Dublin. Her PhD is entitled, “Portraits of Giorgio Cornaro and his Heirs: Resolving Issues of Identity, Authorship and Patronage in Renaissance Venice and Beyond”, which focuses on patrician and ecclesiastical portraiture from sixteenth-century Venice. Rachel is an Irish Research Council Government of Ireland scholar, and has previously worked as a tutor and guest lecturer in UCD, focusing on European Art (1350-1800).
