It’ll Be Alright On The Night

Event Series Event Series (See All)

November 16, 2023 @ 8:00 AM 5:00 PM

As part of its Tiny Little Histories series, The Gaff presents It’ll Be Alright On The Night an exhibition inspired by the memories and experiences of past members of St. Munchin’s Community Siamsa group.

Over the past few months artist, Helena Enright has been gathering footage and listening to people’s memories of being involved with Siamsa.

From running seams up the sides of tights on sewing machines during rehearsals, to winning the overall competition, It’ll be alright on the night is a trip down memory lane to a time when the young, old and middle aged swapped their ordinary everyday lives for the glamour of the stage, making lifelong friends and wonderful memories along the way.

The exhibition will feature a short film with footage of previous shows as well as photographs and images of rehearsals, backstage dressing rooms and awards nights and tells the story of how Community Siamsa fostered a deep sense of community spirit and neighbourhood.

The exhibition opens in Watch House Cross Library on Thursday 16th November at 6.30pm and will include a reading by Sheila Fitzpatrick O’Donnell of her poem Where I’m From and The Misfits will also do a short performance/reading as an example of contemporary and current community theatre. All are welcome.

We encourage members of the public to come along and visit as there will also be an opportunity to share your own memories of Siamsa and contribute to this rich and wonderful era of life in Limerick.
