Get The Shifts announced it will provide a further 700 casual roles in hospitality and events over the next 12 months, with a large majority of the roles Limerick-based. The new roles will bring the total number of roles it has provided to over 1,200 since it was founded in 2016. The company is currently recruiting in Limerick ahead of the busy Christmas period and for its ongoing relationship with local businesses such as Thomond Park.

The tech-centric staffing solution is disrupting Limerick’s hospitality sector by supporting bars, restaurants, cafes, festivals, and other hospitality and events businesses to source experienced, temporary hospitality staff in their area on demand. The new roles will be available to bar staff, wait staff, event staff, promo staff, baristas, mixologists and kitchen porters. With full training provided, Get The Shifts is encouraging anyone who would like to earn a flexible, hassle-free, extra income to apply.

Founder of Get The Shifts, Hannah Wrixon said: “We service hotels and bars throughout the country, throughout the year, but a large amount of our activity is in Limerick. To prepare for the expected spike in activity the Christmas season will bring, we’re currently inviting those interested in joining us to get in touch.

“Get The Shifts is on track to secure 60% of the casual hospitality market by the end of the year, and today’s announcement detailing our plans to provide another 700 roles comes as a result. From trying to forecast the right number of staff on any given day, to combating no-show employees, and from talent shortages to the fluid nature of labour in the industry, effective staffing is a historic problem for hospitality businesses. The reality is that businesses are in constant need of reliable, trained staff.

“Not only do we save businesses time and money where resourcing is concerned, we also spend the time training and preparing our staff so they are shift ready when the opportunity calls. We recruit and train staff and then offer our staff, known as Superstars, to businesses in need as they need them.

“Our Superstars include those already in the industry in need of additional hours, those looking to break into the industry, students and stay-at-home parents who need a role with low-commitment level, those looking to learn a new skill and more, so we have an incredibly varied portfolio. A large percentage of our Superstars are digital natives and are used to using on-demand technology to shop, to hail a cab, and they are attracted to our product because finding a shift or communicating with a potential employer is instant too.”

The start-up’s innovative technology helps clients not only in the sourcing of staff but also in the managing of those they hire. A business can browse through hundreds of trained, pre-screened Superstars and offer a shift from an app on their phone. Superstars accept the shifts they want up to three hours before it begins and check-in and out through GPS. Clients have security too in that they can add Superstars to their favourites list so they are easy to find again, as well as rate a Superstars performance.

Get The Shifts’ employees, known as superstars, have the opportunity to learn new skills or upskill supporting them to move into permanent employment in the hospitality industry. The company has invested with Dulann, an award-winning Waterford-based online learning company, to develop interactive and engaging eLearning programmes, available to Superstars at approximately 10% of the standard cost.
