UL Bohemian RFC is a rugby club based in Limerick, playing in Division 2A of the All-Ireland League and is affiliated with the University of Limerick, having amalgamated in 1999. UL Bohemian RFC has launched a campaign called #BeAGoodTeammate which was developed by the Director of Rugby at UL Bohemian RFC, Cathal Sheridan, and fellow club members.

The campaign started at the beginning of the winter lockdown as they wanted their club to be more involved in helping their local community through both good times and the tough times. The club wanted their members to really stand up and be a good teammate on and off the field. They have become dedicated to using their social media platforms to encourage people to wear masks, to support local businesses’ and to help look after our community’s mental health during these hard times.

The #BeAGoodTeammate campaign involves members of the club and the local people of Limerick playing our part to get through this difficult time. They aim to encourage our community and the wider communities around Limerick, to support each other during this hard time by shopping local, looking out for friends, family, and neighbours and adhering to all government guidelines during the Covid-19 pandemic.

The UL Bohemian RFC have partnered with Jigsaw Youth Mental Health Services for 2021, to encourage mental health awareness within their club and the Limerick area. They want to encourage people to be a team as it is so important to look out for each other- now more than ever! They will be fundraising throughout 2021 for Jigsaw Limerick to help them with much-needed resources.

Jigsaw Limerick is a free, non-judgmental, and confidential mental health support service for young people aged 12 – 25 living, working, or studying in Limerick City and county. Jigsaw provides guidance and support for young people who are going through a difficult or distressing time. They also provide advice and guidance for anyone concerned about a young person in their life.

The UL Bohemian RFC have dedicated every Friday evening on their Instagram page to highlighting nine different restaurants around Limerick as inspiration for the community to treat themselves to a local #FridayNightTakeaway. They hope to encourage their club members and the wider Limerick community to treat themselves to the end of a very hard week, while also supporting a local business that may be struggling during this second lockdown.

As part of the #BeAGoodTeammate campaign, they will be celebrating the end of winter lockdown on December 1, by doing a giveaway on their Instagram page. The giveaway event will be a large hamper filled with local products and services from businesses around the Munster province where supporters and followers can get involved and learn about unique small businesses in the Munster area.

The club have been working on this project since the beginning of November and they have partnered with over twenty different businesses from the Limerick area and within the surrounding Munster region. There will be live videos of the hamper to promote each and every individual business within it, with the aim of encouraging locals to shop within their community this Christmas.

A representative from the Marketing and Media team for UL Bohemian RFC, speaking on the initiative said, “We are one big community at UL Bohemian RFC and we all want to get back to hugging our loved ones, celebrating wins and socialising with friends – but we know that we have a part to play during these hard times and we want to make a positive impact to Limerick by helping our community and looking out for each other. By being a good teammate to each other, ourselves, and our community, we will get through this winter lockdown in a positive way.”

“We hope to encourage our community to shop locally in the run-up to Christmas, even if it is something small – a small sale for a customer may be a huge difference to a business owner! Whether it’s good times or really tough times- lets #BeAGoodTeammate and look out for each other in our Limerick community.”

You can find their weekly top restaurant picks and learn more about their hamper on their Instagram page @ul_bohs.
