Bon Secours Health System announces the acquisition of Barringtons Hospital Limerick

Bon Secours Health System is delighted to announce that the Group has completed the acquisition of Barringtons Hospital Limerick. Peter Lacy, Group Chairman said: “I would like to personally thank all the staff and management at Barringtons for their patience and perseverance during the acquisition period and would formally like to welcome the Barringtons staff to the Bon Secours Health System. We also look forward to serving the community in the Limerick area in the years to come.”

Bill Maher Group CEO of the BSHS, the largest Private Hospital Group in Ireland, echoed Mr Lacy’s comments: “I would like to welcome the staff at Barringtons Hospital to Bon Secours Health System and to join us in implementing our “2020 Plan” to deliver Advanced Medicine Exceptional Care to the people of Limerick”. Mr Maher continued: “We have ambitious plans for the development of Barringtons Hospital including extensive refurbishment, recruitment of additional consultant staff and the introduction of new services”. Mr Maher outlined he also looked forward to partnership working with public hospitals to further improve services for patients.

He continued: “We are also engaging in the Limerick community and are committed to working with Limerick City and County Council and Limerick Chamber of Commerce. We are excited with the prospect of a Health Campus in Limerick and will work closely with LCCC in reaching the goals of the 2030 Plan. In order to progress our research and education agenda, we look forward to working with UL and LIT.

Minister for Finance Mr Michael Noonan T.D. welcomed the announcement. In a statement released earlier today, the Minister said: “I am very pleased with the successful completion of this acquisition and welcome Bon Secours Health System to Limerick. Bon Secours Health System has a great reputation nationwide for providing effective healthcare. I congratulate both the Bon Secours Group and Barringtons Hospital on this move and especially Mr Paul O’Byrne who opened the present day facility in 1991.”

The hospital network is located in Cork, Dublin, Tralee, Galway and now Limerick as well as a Care Village in Cork. As Ireland’s largest private Hospital Group, we look forward to providing Bon Secours Health System’s unique and patient centred quality healthcare, “good help” (Bon Secours), to the people of Limerick. We will soon be celebrating our expansion to Limerick with a formal launch to be presided over by Minister Noonan in the coming weeks.”
