New Castleconnell community initiative aims to unite the village

A new initiative is underway in Castleconnell to encourage local involvement and provide a shared vision for the future of the community.

LOVE Castleconnell, is a voluntary, community organisation, founded by residents Tara Hartigan, Nicky McNamara, Deirdre Ryan and Eamonn McQuade.  The aim of the group is to encourage tourists and residents alike to Live, Own, Visit and Enjoy the scenic village of Castleconnell, including its riverside walks, rich heritage, history, festivals, artistic and musical offerings.

LOVE Castleconnell has joined together with ACM Community Development Limited for this new community initiative.

In 2012, the village came together to represent County Limerick in the All Ireland Pride of Place competition. It was a huge success with Castleconnell achieving runner-up in its category. Now the village is being asked to do it again.

Ballyhoura Development CLG has agreed to provide Castleconnell with a professional facilitator to come and talk and listen to the community with the purpose of uniting the community groups and all who live and work in the village.

The result will be the development of a 3-5 year Community Plan which will look at employment, infrastructure, social activities, heritage and tourism, environmental awareness and the needs of both younger and older members of the parish. It will give shape and direction to the community, provide a shared vision, and create opportunities for agencies and public sector bodies to work together with the locals to impact the quality of life of people living and working in Castleconnell.

Please take a moment to fill out the survey.  The survey is a paramount part of the workshops. There will be three workshops over the course of the next three months. The venue will be the Parish Hall, Main Street, Castleconnell at 8 pm on the dates shown below.

Thursday 27 September: Identification of priority areas and distribution of survey.

Thursday 25 October: Presentation of feedback from the first workshop, presentation of survey results and further development of priorities.

Thursday 22 November: Presentation of the draft plan and identify structures to implement the plan.

So, that in 20 years time people can look back and remember the events that were making the headlines.
