Exciting opportunities for those interested in a career in the beauty industry continue to grow thanks to internationally-recognised programmes like Beauty Therapy at Limerick and Clare Education and Training Board’s College of Further Education and Training. International accreditation means graduates of the programmes can increase their prospects and enjoy travelling both home and abroad as they pursue the career they love.

The Beauty Therapy programme at College of FET, Mulgrave Street Campus has always been a popular choice at the Limerick-based campus, thanks to its dedicated beauty therapy room which is perfect for prospective practitioners.

Lucy Connolly from Limerick, a current Beauty Therapy learner is impressed with the learning environment at the campus: “It’s really supportive and engaging here; class sizes are small, so you really get to know your classmates.”

According to Lucy the benefit of learning in a smaller class size is the access to tutors: “The staff here are really helpful and the course offers me hands-on experience with professional qualifications.”

The Beauty Therapy programme also offers learners the chance to study a variety of modules to prepare them for a varied career in the beauty industry.

“I’m really enjoying the facial skincare and facial treatment modules,” Lucy explained, adding, “We get to learn all about the different disorders of the skin and how to treat them. We also learn how different products work on the skin, as well as various facial massage techniques.”

The two-year, full-time programme balances practical and theory training, teaching the skills and knowledge needed to achieve the highest industry standards. Learners also gain invaluable experience through the mandatory work experience module in a busy salon, skin clinic, or spa, reinforcing the programme’s theoretical and practical aspects.

Another key element of studying Beauty Therapy at College of FET is the opportunity to experience working abroad through the Erasmus+ programme.

“A feature of this course is the Erasmus+ programme, where you get to travel to Spain or France to experience work over two weeks, which is a great opportunity,” Lucy explained, having gained her own experience working abroad in Spain.

“Within two years, you get internationally-recognised qualifications, which opens up opportunities for work all over the world and with College of FET, you can kickstart your career in the beauty industry.”

If like Lucy you would like to explore the idea of a career in Beauty Therapy, College of FET, Mulgrave Street Campus is hosting an Information Morning on Friday, April 12 from 10am to 1pm.
