A recent business tourism networking event in London – organised by Tourism Ireland and Fáilte Ireland – was attended by 64 decision-makers from international associations in Britain.

Representatives of the various Irish convention bureaux – including Shannon Region Conference & Sports Bureau – attended the event, highlighting our world-class conference facilities and what makes Ireland such a special destination. Business tourism is the most lucrative form of tourism, with associations regularly holding conferences for thousands of delegates in different venues around the world, offering significant economic benefits to the host country.

Karen Brosnahan, General Manager of the Shannon Region Conference & Sports Bureau, said,  “The UK market is key for our region, with so much UK access into Shannon Airport on a weekly basis. We were delighted with the response from the buyers to our offering.”

Corporate meetings and association conferences have been the focus of Tourism Ireland’s business tourism promotions in Britain during 2018.

Julie Wakley, Tourism Ireland’s Head of Great Britain, said: “Our ‘Meet in Ireland’ event was a really useful platform to showcase the Mid-West and Ireland to key influencers, in a bid to win a greater share of their lucrative business for Ireland. We were delighted so many representatives of these international associations took the time to attend, to hear about our superb conference facilities and what makes the island of Ireland unique as a business destination.”

‘Meet in Ireland’ is the official MICE (meetings, incentives, conferences and events) brand for the island of Ireland, which comprises three tourism authorities: Fáilte Ireland, Tourism Ireland and Tourism NI.

The Shannon Region Conference and Sports Bureau are celebrating 15 years in business this year. The Shannon Bureau promotes the Shannon Region as a location for business and sports tourism and offers an entirely free service to event organisers and local ambassadors to help increase the Clare and Limerick regions share of the lucrative international business and sports tourism market. Hundreds of ambassadors have been actively working with the Bureau in recent years to help attract thousands of people to the region through a range of business and sports events. In 2017 it supported business and sports events worth in excess of €7,000,000 to the economy of the region, a substantial slice of the national Business & Events Tourism cake.   The bureau works in partnership with Meet in Ireland in all its activities.
