CIPD Mid West Region – Positive ageing at work

Join us on 18 January for our seminar and panel discussion on Positive ageing at work
In the Western world, the workforce is ageing. This brings a number of challenges to organisations; however, it also brings opportunities. Given these shifting demographics, this seminar aims to provide delegates with an understanding of how to manage an age-diverse workforce and how to support employees as they get older.
We have an exciting line up of speakers who will share their expertise and experience in this area:
Professor Donald Truxillo, Kemmy Business School, University of Limerick and Associate Editor at Work, Aging and Retirement will discuss the importance of people’s beliefs about whether they are ageing successfully at work and about their ability to meet their job requirements as they age. He will also discuss the research evidence for what individuals and organisations can do to support successful ageing in the workplace.
Orlaith Carmody, Principal Business Advisor to Age Friendly Ireland, will speak about the necessity and the opportunity for businesses to clearly demonstrate that they welcome and value the older customer and will look at how the workplace must strive to retain and recruit older employees.
Deirdre Wafer is currently the Global Co-Chair for the Wisdom Employee Resource group at LinkedIn, which brings workers age 40+ and their allies together across the company with an objective of ensuring LinkedIn is a place that works for everyone regardless of age. Deirdre will share a little about her own career journey and talk about the Wisdom community in LinkedIn, the power of multigenerational teams and opportunities for mentoring & reverse mentoring, as well as the intersectionality between age and our other identities.
Starting at 9am with registration and tea/coffee, the session will begin at 9:30 and will conclude at approximately 12 noon.
