Art, Craft and Design students undertaking the VTOS programme at Limerick City Adult Education Service held a one-day exhibition of their art work at the Limerick City AES building on O’Connell Avenue on Thursday May 28 from 10am to 2pm. The work showcased a range of Paintings, Drawings, Crafts, Designs, and Photography and represents just a selection of the total creative output of the students over the past year.
Jayne Foley, the course leader, explained, “It’s exciting for us to show this work as it’s so important for any artist to have their work viewed by the public. In essence, a public viewing is the final element in the creative process and this gives the students the chance to gauge that reaction. We start out the course in September and the students develop their skills through equal measures of hard work and encouragement, both from the staff and from each other. At the end of the term we showcase some of the work and this allows others who may be interested in the course to see what we are about.”
The course affords students the opportunity to begin on the road to working in the creative industries and can significantly boost their success rate in moving onto 3rd level Art and Design courses.
