Limerick and Clare ETB leads the way

Limerick and Clare Education and Training Board leads the way with a three-year strategic agreement. 

Limerick and Clare Education and Training Board has published a three-year strategic agreement setting out its priority areas for the coming years, which will see 30% more learners securing employment from its provision serving the labour market and 46% more learners progressing to other further or higher education courses. It demonstrates the commitment of the ETB to ensuring Further Education and Training provision that meets the needs of the local community, individual learners and businesses.

Established on July 1, 2013, Limerick and Clare Education and Training Board is the state education and training authority for the Limerick and Clare region in Ireland. It is one of 16 statutory regional education authorities established by the Education and Training Boards Act 2013. The authority delivers educational services to over 34,000 students and learners annually. It also employs 2,500 staff across the region.

Each of the 16 ETBs around the country worked with SOLAS, the state further education and training authority, over the past 12 months to develop individual three-year, bespoke strategic plans. SOLAS has also published a national Agreement that sets out sector-wide targets, to which each ETB will contribute based on its local economic and community profile. Future Ready Learning – Strategic Performance Agreements: Developing the Further Education and Training System 2018 – 2020 outlines how the ETBs will individually and collectively deliver across six key areas with their Further Education and Training provision including: delivering on jobs for the economy; progression to other learning opportunities; transversal skills development; expanding lifelong learning and workforce up-skilling provision.

Limerick and Clare Education and Training Board has since 2013 been working at the heart of the community offering a diverse range of education programmes for the region. The priorities set out in the Agreement will help ensure that further education and training is future-ready and responsive to the changing technological, social and economic landscape of the Limerick and Clare region.

Paul Patton, Director of Further Education and Training, Limerick and Clare Education and Training Board, outlined the benefits of the Agreement and what it means for the region: “The launch of our 3-year Strategic Performance Agreement represents a significant milestone in the development of Further Education and Training in the Limerick and Clare region. It provides for overall increased activity in the delivery of FET Provision and Support Services. This will be of benefit to learners, employers and local communities, and, particularly, to those seeking employment or in employment. It also represents significant opportunities to those learners wishing to progress within FET or to Higher Education”.

Andrew Brownlee, Executive Director, Strategy and Knowledge, SOLAS said: “It has been a pleasure and real learning curve working with ETBs on the Agreements. The commitment of the ETBs to their region is evident, and we look forward to supporting them as they work towards delivery of their targets.”

There is a real appetite for education and learning in the region and Limerick, and Clare Education and Training Board aims to ensure that FET provision in the region focuses on critical skills needs, refocusing from provision of broad-based skills to provision focussed on priority skills needs, ensuring future-ready learning for all.
