Limerick Artist Michelle Grimes is one of the nominees listed in the Hot Press Magazine’s ‘The Hotties 2021’ in two categories – ‘Female Artist of the Year’ and ‘Most Promising of the Year’. 

“I’m absolutely honoured to even be listed with all these amazing artists. I know I’ve been a bit quiet since my first single but there is so much more coming! I’ve been working on my craft and cooking things up and can’t wait until I can share,” said Michelle.

Hot Press Magazine have revealed their star-studded shortlist for this year’s Hot Press Readers’ Poll where music lovers can vote for their favourite best acts, tracks, albums, and more from 2020. “To say that the last year has been challenging would be putting it mildly, but we shouldn’t forget all the phenomenal music that emerged in spite of the madness,” said Hot Press.

Every year, Hot Press invites their readers to have their say on their favourite Irish album, debut album, track, musician, group, most promising act, electronic act, hip-hop act, folk act, comedian, and DJ, plus all their highlights on the international front.

22-year-old singer/songwriter Michelle Grimes from Coonagh, County Limerick, is a student who studied Music & Dance at the University of Limerick. Michelle is a former band member of UK girl band, ‘Office Girls’ and made it to the boot camp stages of the 2016 X-Factor series, along with her fellow band members. Michelle is well versed in performing and sang in front of 20,000 people at Trafalgar Square when she was with Office Girls. On her journey, Michelle has performed as a backing singer for fellow Limerick musicians Hermitage Green, as well as for the Belgium royal family and the President of the United States. 

Michelle sang at the press launch of Limerick LGBTQ Pride Festival 2017 at the Clayton Hotel, Limerick, and supported fellow past X-Factor contestant, Saara Aalto at the Pride Climax party at Dolan’s Warehouse.

Michelle also featured on Ireland’s Got Talent and her debut wowed the judges, Louis Walsh, Michelle Visage, Denise Van Outen. Michelle got four yes votes after her powerful singing performance.

With a sound that’s already been compared to the likes of Ariana Grande, Jessie J, and Dua Lipa, Irish star-in-the-making Michelle Grimes released her debut single ‘Going Going Gone’ in October and the song was a runaway success!

Hot Press Magazine describes her voice, “Her smooth vocal intonations have the stamp of honey-toned R&B inspirations, as well as the range of pop artists from the early 2000s, namely Christina Aguilera.”

Michelle has a soulful voice and has played the piano from a very young age, “My Grandad paid for piano lessons when I was five and I think my Mam and Dad thought I would play it for a few months but they couldn’t stop me, I was addicted and I was singing all the time.”

Michelle speaks about her musical influences, “My Grandad has me listening to jazz like Etta James… I love R&B like John Legend, Justin Timberlake, Beyoncé, and Tina Turner, I love all the divas.”

2021 will see a slew of singles emerge from Michelle and we can’t wait!
