Older People New Writing Workshop will start this Saturday at Limerick Writers Centre

Older people writers will again have the opportunity to join a 6-week new writing workshop offered by Limerick Writers’ Centre in conjunction with the poet Ron Carey starting this Saturday, September 7 in Limerick. This is the second edition of the course and upon completion, Limerick Writers’ Centre will give consideration to publishing a book featuring the work produced during the duration of the course.

Kicking off Saturday at LWC office, the creative writing course featuring poetry and short story will be taught and supported by Ron Carey, who will again guide participants from initial ideas to completed work, and will also give each participant friendly and personal support.

Dominic Taylor, one of the founding members of The Limerick Writers’ Centre and the organiser of the course said, “This is a great opportunity for many people who may have missed out on things in their life to express their hidden talents through creative writing. The workshop is fully booked at the moment and we also have a waiting list for it.”

The course is geared toward older people but not exclusively so, everyone is welcome to participate. It will be held at the Limerick Writers’ Centre, 12 Barrington Street, Limerick every Saturday for the next 6 weeks.

The Facilitator

Ron Carey only began to write poetry seriously in his 60’s. He is a prize-winning poet and a finalist in many national and international poetry competitions including, The Allingham Poetry Award, The Strokestown Poetry Prize, The Bridport Prize, Cinnamon Press Poetry Awards, Fish International Poetry Prize, Gregory O’ Donoghue International Poetry Awards and Hugh O’Flaherty Poetry Award. His poems have appeared in many anthologies and magazines. In 2015, he received a Masters in Creative Writing from the University of South Wales. In 2016, he was Highly Commended in the Patrick Kavanagh Award and his debut collection ‘DISTANCE’ was shortlisted for the Forward Prize Best First Collection UK and Ireland. His latest collection, Racing Down the Sun, was launched in November 2018.
