The play is inspired by stories gathered and from conversations had, over a number of years, between community groups and artists associated with The GAFF, a performance resources space on Cecil Street in the city.

‘Queens of the Island Field is a strong representation of life over a number of generations in St. Mary’s Parish,’ said LYS’s Gillian Boland adding ‘audiences will be charmed and entertained as both texts are peppered with plenty of comedy!’

The play includes teenage girls from Limerick Youth Service’s youth groups in the King’s Island area who are affectionately known as ‘D’island Girls.’

‘They have had a very busy few months rehearsing for the play and should be extremely proud of their work and contribution,’ said Gillian. “Queens of the Island Field is a strong representation of life over a number of generations,” she added.

The premiere of Queens of the Island Field takes place on Tuesday, November 28 at 8 pm with two more shows the following nights, Wednesday & Thursday respectively.
