Shannon Region Conference and Sports Bureau held their Annual Members Meeting 2019 at The Savoy Hotel, on Wednesday, April 10. The annual members meeting is held for the
bureau’s members to inform them about plans for the region for the rest of this year, what
the region did last year and goals for the future. Shannon Region Conference & Sports
Bureau is a public-private partnership and the official events bureau for Ireland’s Shannon
Region.
The meeting was held at The Savoy Hotel Limerick, one of Shannon Region Conference &
Sports Bureau members and was attended by all bureau stakeholders including Clare and
Limerick hotels, academic venues, local authorities, tourist attractions and Shannon Airport.
The meeting was opened by Tony Brazil, chairperson of the SRCSB. He spoke about the
success of 2018, where the bureau won over €7.5 million in business tourism events for the
wider Shannon region.
Karen Brosnahan said, “Today is our Annual Stakeholders Meeting, where ourselves and Fáilte
Ireland comes together to tell all the trade about work in business tourism in the Shannon Region,
what our plans are for 2019 and how we can all work together. Conference business is so
lucrative, and it’s a win-win for everybody. Every conference delegate that comes to our region is
worth €1,600 to the local economy, so we all need to work in partnership to give them a real
wow, memorable experience.”
Lynda Reilly, Fáilte Ireland, spoke about the financial and practical support on offer for
international conferences won for the Island of Ireland, in collaboration with the Shannon Region
Conference & Sports Bureau. She also updated the trade on joint Initiatives in place with
Shannon Region Conference & Sports Bureau to attract international conferences/ incentives and corporate meetings in 2019. These include collaboration on fams, site inspections, international
trade shows and ambassador recruit events.
Shannon Region Conference and Sports Bureau are celebrating 16 years in business this year.
The Shannon Bureau promotes the Shannon Region as a location for business and sports
tourism and offers an entirely free service to event organisers and local ambassadors to help
increase the Clare and Limerick regions share of the lucrative international business and sports
tourism market. Hundreds of ambassadors have been actively working with the Bureau in recent
years to help attract thousands of people to the region through a range of business and sports
