A new exhibition of artwork loaned by the Arts Office at Limerick City and County Council has been opened at University Hospital Limerick as part of initiatives which UL Hospitals Group Arts Committee is working on to broaden Arts and Health.

The exhibition was opened by the Mayor of the City and County of Limerick, Councillor Gerald Mitchell, on March 27th, 2024. The artwork has been loaned by the Arts Office at Limerick City and County Council to UHL.

This is one of a number of initiatives which UL Hospitals Group Arts Committee is working on with partner organisations to broaden Arts and Health within the healthcare environment.

The artwork is intended to soften the clinical environment for patients, visitors and staff; assist with wayfinding by providing distinctive landmarks; provide distraction and comfort for patients and visitors; and enhance wellbeing.

Works on loan include paintings by some of Ireland’s leading artists, providing them with an opportunity to engage with new audiences in new ways, and in particular with individuals who may have found the arts difficult to access due to the complexities of ill health.
