This past Sunday, the University Concert Hall hosted the 2015 Intervarsity Dance Competition. Dance UL, one of the University of Limericks largest clubs, hosted this year’s competition. Upwards of 400 dancers descended on the 1000 seat auditorium on the day to compete against each as colleges and universities from around Ireland sent their dance clubs and societies to compete in the event. Masters of ceremonies was ‘The Wolf of UL’ Tommy Bolger, Student Union President, who shot to fame after his campaign video went viral racking up more than 300,000 views, and joining him on the day was Dance UL co-founder Jennifer de Brún. A number of experts in the field judged each category. Dance UL competed with four routines this year – Hip Hop, Jazz, Irish, and Contemporary, winning first place in Contemporary and Hip Hop. Congrats Dance UL!

Dance UL offers ten technique classes a week for students and non-students including two levels of Hip-hop, and Irish Dance, as well as Ballet, Contemporary, Jazz, Zumba fitness and now Yoga for all levels. Set up in October 2008 Dance UL teaches a range of classes in Ballet, Hip-hop, Irish dance, Jazz, Contemporary, Yoga, and Zumba. The aim of the club is for students to have fun and meet new people while practicing and learning the art of dance. Dance UL currently has 200 members and encourages both non-dancers and dancers to join. Winning “Best New Club 2009” in UL’s Clubs and Societies ball, Dance UL also has been granted countless awards at the All Ireland Intervarsity Competition each year including two first-place finishes last year.
