Limerick City Tidy Towns held their annual awards event for 2023 at The Glen Tavern, Glentworth Street, and presented the prize for the overall winner for 2023 to Daly’s Hardware following a public online vote held in January.
The 2023 Limerick City Tidy Towns Overall Winner was selected as one of six bi-monthly winners during 2023, and runner up was O’Mahony’s Booksellers.
Daly’s Hardware won the bi-monthly award in November-December 2023 not just for their Christmas windows and décor, but also because their signage, lighting and beautifully painted exterior also looks great all year round. They also take great pride in the street and alleyway near the store, undertaking regular clean-ups which is much appreciated by the Tidy towns volunteers who cover that patch.
Daly’s Hardware is a cross-generational, city-centre store that first opened in 1954. Daly’s, which specialises in lighting, home decor and D.I.Y products, has been a staple of William Street since they first opened over sixty years ago.
Since opening in 1954, Daly’s has passed through three generations. Founder Joe Daly passed the store to his son Tony, who in recent years has handed the reins to daughter Ali.
Daly’s is known for its range of high-quality lighting, displayed centre stage in the shop window. In addition to the store’s long-running and extensive hardware business, the store is also a paint and wallpaper supplier, stocking many superior brands.
The event was attended by some of the 2023 bi-monthly award winners, along with previous overall winners, Limerick City Tidy Towns volunteers and committee members.
Maura O’Neill spoke at the event saying, “A big thank you to the volunteers and bi-monthly winners alike for their continued support, which had led to a fifth bronze medal in the 2023 National Tidy Towns competition.
The 2024 National Tidy Towns awards has already been launched so the hard work involved in organising projects and submitting the 2024 National Tidy Towns application has already commenced, including selection of further bi-monthly winners during 2024. Well done to all!”
