Scheduled for May 4th, the day before the Regeneron Great Limerick Run, this event is a fantastic opportunity for local children to show their own athletic capabilities and earn themselves their very own finishers medal!

Last year’s event saw over 2,500 primary school students from across the country, and further afield, take part, cheered on by a vibrant crowd of parents, grandparents, and friends that exceeded 5,000. This celebration of fitness, fun, and family has rightfully earned its place as the largest event of its kind in Ireland.

The event will feature four different age groups, accommodating children of all ages and abilities. This inclusive approach ensures every child can partake in a way that is challenging yet attainable, emphasizing participation and the joy of completion over competition.

The day will commence with a wheelchair event on the track in UL which is then followed by races for children from Junior Infants to Sixth Class, with distances set between 1KM and 2KM, tailored to encourage a spirit of healthy competition and personal achievement.

Reflecting on the event, race director Sliabh Wells shared, “The essence of this event is captured in the joyful faces of children as they cross the finish line. It is a great way to integrate the local youth in the festivities of the Bank Holiday Weekend and acts as the perfect curtain raiser for the Regeneron Great Limerick Run the day after.”

The Children’s Run for Fun serves as a vibrant prelude to the Regeneron Great Limerick Run, showcasing the passion and collective enthusiasm for running within the community. The starts at 2:30pm on the UL Sports Campus where number collection for the Regeneron Great Limerick Run is also being held.

We encourage primary school children from Munster, and the wider area to join us for an exciting day out that caters to the whole family!
