The awards, held in partnership with Local Authority Members Association (LAMA) and IPB Insurance, recognise and celebrate community and councils working together and reward unsung heroes making a contribution to people’s lives.

This year 31 local authorities across Ireland nominated over 200 projects in 24 categories.

Limerick is shortlisted for the Corporate Roundabout Scheme in Best CSR Project in Community; Limerick City and environs “Green and Blue” in Best Environmental Project; Brand Adare in Best Tourism; and Engine Collaboration Centre in Best Enterprise and start-Up Hub.

The GoGreenRoutes project is in Best Green Sustainable; Bruff to Holycross in Best Community Transport; and Sky is the Limit, Moyross in Best Mental Health Initiative.

Additionally, St Mary’s Park resident Anthony O’Donnell has been shortlisted for Community Volunteer of the Year 2024 for his volunteer work at King’s Island Community Centre.

As finalists in multiple categories, Limerick City and County Council is also in the running for Council of the Year 2024.

Mayor of the City and County of Limerick, Cllr Gerald Mitchell is wishing the finalists the best of luck, “I’m delighted to see the LAMA Awards once again recognising the hard work of Council staff and members of the community which is delivering important projects and initiatives where they are needed most. I am especially delighted to see Anthony O’Donnell being recognised for his selfless volunteer work at King’s Island Community Centre. Best of luck to all who have been shortlisted.”

Chief Executive of Limerick City and County Council Dr Pat Daly says the shared vision approach of the projects is a recipe for success, “The shortlisted projects show the diversity of initiatives being undertaken by Limerick City and County Council working closely with communities. This collaborative approach is vital to the success of the projects. It fosters cooperation and understanding between the local authority and community and voluntary groups. Ultimately this benefits the local people who have access to these valuable services.”

The All Ireland Community and Council Awards 2023 winners will be announced at a ceremony in Dublin on 17 February.

Richard is a presenter, producer, songwriter and actor. He was named the Limerick Person of the Year (2011) and won an online award at the Metro Éireann Media and Multicultural Awards (2011) for promoting multi-culturalism online. Richard says that the ilovelimerick.com concept is very much a community driven project that aims to document life in Limerick. So, that in 20 years time people can look back and remember the events that were making the headlines.
