Employees at AMCS Group headquarters have chosen to support Red Hill School, a co-educational special school in Patrickswell, Co. Limerick, for pupils with ‘Autistic Spectrum Disorder’. The school currently supports 75 pupils with 14 teachers and 35 Special Needs Assistants.

In February 2008 Red Hill School received recognition as a school for children with autism from the then Department of Education and Science.  It commenced with six pupils and two teachers and has grown to its current size.

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a neurological, developmental disorder which affects how people with ASD communicate, socialise and interact with others.  It is also characterised by restrictive, repetitive behaviours, interests and activities.

Pupils with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) may have difficulties with verbal and non-verbal communication. Verbal difficulties may include a delay in the development of language, comprehension difficulties, literal thinking and speech, poorly modulated intonation and delivery of speech, echolalia (echoing speech), unusual vocabulary, and repetitive use of language.

A musical fundraising event was hosted by AMCS Group on Thursday, October 19, at The Loft, Locke bar in Limerick, in order to raise funds for Red Hill School.

The event itself was headlined by AMCS’ own band, Brigadoon, who are a traditional Irish band, and they were joined by a range of other talented musicians and performers.

Contributions from ticket sales, raffle prizes and also a homemade bake sale, which set taste buds dancing, helped AMCS Group to raise over €1,600, which has since been generously matched by AMCS for a grand total of €3,200. The school are due to receive much-needed equipment from the funds in the coming weeks.
