Preparations for Ballylanders St Patrick’s Day celebrations in Ballylanders are underway this week.

The Ballylanders Development Association are delighted to announce they are working with other local volunteer groups to bring Ballylanders St. Patricks Day celebrations to the East Limerick village again this year. The Ballylanders St Patricks Dayparade will be on Sunday March 17th, leaving James Hayes’ yard at 3pm.

Expect to see Irish dancers, GAA clubs and local school students taking part in the parade. Vintage tractors and motorcycles will also join in on the fun with children and adults of all ages enjoying the various forms of transport on show.

At a recent AGM of the association, Damien Fitzgerald was re-elected chairperson while James Stapleton was re-elected secretary, Martina McLoughlin was re-elected treasurer and Máiréad O’Donnell was re-elected PRO.

Entering his 4th year as chairperson, Damien said there is a long list of people and organisations who make Ballylanders a great place to live and work in.

“We are nothing without the people behind us. Ballylanders is full of great people who are always willing to help whenever they’re asked. Every community group works together throughout the year. We have a thriving and prosperous village. Together we make Ballylanders a great community to be part of, ” said BDA chairman Damien Fitzgerald. “St Patrick’s Day in Ballylanders is always a great day for celebrating as a community. We’re looking to hear from local groups and organisations who want to get involved with this year’s parade in Ballylanders. People can reach out to us at [email protected],” he added.

The St Patrick’s Day parade in Limerick City this year takes place on Sunday, March 17, from 12pm, as a sea of green will engulf Limerick city, with the theme of this year’s parade being ‘a different kind of energy’. BT Young Scientist winner Seán O’Sullivan has been named as this year’s parade grand marshal.

There’s something to suit the whole family as part of this year’s Limerick St Patrick’s Festival, kicking off from March 15. The festival offers fun events and activities for all ages featuring live music, street shows, festival foods and more.

The festival lineup, announced by Limerick City and County Council, includes tours of King John’s Castle, learning about the life of St Patrick at the Limerick Museum, and, of course, the St Patrick’s Day Parade and the International Band Championship.
