Limerick Writers’ Centre and Lime Square Poets bring guest poet, Carrie Barrett to the First Wednesday Series on February 7

Carrie Barrett will be special guest for the First Wednesday Series on February 7

In a spectacular kick-off to the new year, the First Wednesday Series, organised by Limerick Writers’ Centre and Lime Square Poets, lit up the stage with its event on January 4 at the Whitehouse Bar.

Now the group are excited to announce the continuation of this poetic journey on February 7, featuring the well-regarded guest poet, Carrie Barrett.

Carrie Barrett, a celebrated playwright and poet hailing from Limerick City and currently residing in Co. Clare, brings an impressive artistic background to the forefront. As the trailblazing participant in the Abbey Theatre’s 5X5 project, Barrett crafted captivating monologues that later became integral to the acclaimed play ‘Bingo!’.

Premiered at the Belltable Theatre in Limerick, ‘Bingo!’ was published in 2021 by the Limerick Writers’ Centre as part of the anthology ‘Four Limerick Plays’. Barrett’s residency at The Liverpool Irish Festival in 2022 showcased her poetic prowess, with her evocative poem ‘Home’ gracing the pages of the festival’s magazine.

Among her numerous accolades, Barrett was honoured as the recipient of Poetry Ireland’s prestigious Poetry Town Bursary in 2021. Currently pursuing an MFA in Playwriting at The Lir – National Academy of Dramatic Arts, Trinity College, Dublin, Barrett consistently contributes to various projects. Notable mentions include her participation in Abbey Theatre’s Dear Ireland III in collaboration with Adapt Domestic Abuse Services in 2021, the 24-hour Plays at The Limetree Theatre in Limerick in 2019, and In:Visible Women at the Liverpool Irish Festival in 2018.
