The Colaiste Mhichíl, CBS Sexton Street, 1st-year basketball team had a great win over Croom to win the South West Regional Final with a score of 47-35.

In order to get to this stage, the Colaiste Mhichíl basketball team had won all four of their pool games, they then had to play Tarbert Comprehensive in the semi-final. The final was an excellent game which was tight until the very end. Both teams left it all on the court. Croom took an early lead in the first quarter which ended 13-9. One of CBS key players Duzi Neube picked up three early fouls meaning he had to be subbed off.

CBS kept their heads up however and fought hard in the second quarter with some great scores by Zak Angarib and great defensive work by Sean O’Brien and Kevin Leonovicius. CBS were down by a point at halftime.

CBS started the second half strong with their inside players putting in a great performance. Siya Sibanola had a great quarter scoring 7 points. Croom kept fighting hard but an excellent final quarter display by Covenant Ero scoring 12 points sealed the win for Sexton Street.

It was an outstanding team performance with all players giving 100 per cent. The school and especially their coaches Ms Kavanagh and Mr Naughton are extremely proud of the boys. Ms Kavanghan states, ‘’We are delighted for the team, they have worked very hard to get here today and it has all paid off, such a great achievement for them and the school. We now progress to the All Ireland playoffs which will be held on the 18th April.”

Mr Naughton added, “It was a great day from start to finish. Every single player can change the course of the game and that is exactly what happened on the day”.
