Colbert Station Limerick has officially reopened its doors to bus passengers following a significant upgrade in its facilities and services.

The Limerick stations re-opened on Thursday, January 11 and the upgrades are set to provide an improved and more comfortable experience for their service users.

Making an announcement on the Bus Eireann Twitter feed ahead of the opening, the transport provider said, “We are pleased to announce that the upgraded Colbert Station Limerick will re-open to bus passengers (only) from tomorrow morning.

“Passengers will find helpful signage and designated Bus Éireann staff on site to direct and assist them with any queries.”

The upgraded services aim to enhance the overall commuting experience, making it more convenient and user-friendly for those utilizing the station.

The first service from Colbert Station Limerick following the reopening was the 5.05am Colbert Station to Shannon Airport route.

One of the key highlights of the upgraded station is a spacious covered waiting area, providing protection from the elements for commuters as the wait aiming to create a more comfortable experience.

Digital route information screens have also been installed displaying real-time information about bus routes and departure times.

Commentators on Twitter have spoken about the fluidity of changeovers for people travelling by bus and rail, with many others saying the station has received a “well-deserved refresh”.

As part of the development, the new car park adjacent to Colbert Station has also opened, Colbert Station’s Car Park will be located off Parnell Street meaning the temporary Car Park will no longer be available to customers.

This initial re-opening represents the first phase of the Colbert Transport Interchange, a project involving Bus Éireann and Irish Rail, funded by the National Transport Authority (NTA). Works remain ongoing at some parts of the station with a full re-opening of the station, to both rail and bus passengers, expected in the coming months.

Bus Éireann shared that the Limerick City Electrification project is progressing as planned. This project will see our Limerick fleet converted to fully electric vehicles and will be Ireland’s first fully electric city service and will publish further information on this project in the coming weeks.
