Limerick City and County Council have confirmed that a funding application has been given by the National Transport Authority (NTA) for a new Active Travel footpath scheme on the Condell Road.
The Active Travel team at Limerick City and County Council, with funding from the National Transport Authority, is transforming Limerick’s cycling and walking network. Their partnership with the NTA aims to deliver a high-quality, accessible and connected network of cycleways and pedestrian routes.
The footpath on Condell Road will extend from the Condell Road roundabout to Ted Russell Park. Senior Engineer Hugh McGrath confirmed the funding for the footpath following a question from Sharon Benson, Sinn Féin Councillor. Cllr Sharon Benson submitted the question for the Meeting of the Metropolitan District of Limerick on October 24, where she requested an update on the footpath.
Hugh McGrath said, “Limerick City and County Council are pleased to confirm that our NTA funding application has recently been granted for a new Active Travel footpath scheme on the Condell Road extending from the Condell Road roundabout to Ted Russell Park.
“This new footpath will link the new housing development at Moineir to the pedestrian network in the Caherdavin area and Ted Russell Park. Tendering for the project is currently ongoing with the intention to commence this scheme before the end of the year subject to the appointment of a suitable contractor,” Mr McGrath concluded.
Condell Road is a popular place for Limerick walkers, and it is a route often taken by participants of the Active Cities Walk group, set up by Limerick Sports Partnership.
A Caherdavin resident commented on the footpath scheme saying, “It’s great news. The footpath is well needed and will be used by so many people in Caherdavin and surrounding areas.”
