The annual Croom Tractor Run, inspired by the memory of Lucy Bourke, took place on Sunday, May 29 at Ballygrennan, Croom (formerly Buttercup Farm) in aid of two worthy charities, Jack and Jill Children’s Foundation and Milford Hospice.

The 30km course set out from Croom, crossed the Maigue River at Caherass, proceeded to John Coelma’s farm in Patrickswell where refreshments were served before returning to Buttercup Farm for a traditional bacon and cabbage lunch.

The event has been running for over a decade and is organised by friends and family of Michael and Carrie Bourke, whose daughter Lucy sadly passed away in 2010. The chosen charities are of personal significance to the organisers.

The Jack and Jill Children’s Foundation supports children with neurodevelopmental delays across Ireland. The amazing support provided by the Jack and Jill team allowed Carrie to care for Lucy at home. With less than 20% of funding coming from the government, the charity relies hugely on the support of the public.

The other beneficiary of the fundraiser was Milford Care Centre, an organisation close to the hearts of many in the Midwest due to the specialist palliative care and older person services they provide.

All funds raised from the Croom Tractor Run went directly to these beneficiaries, allowing them to continue to provide much-needed services to families in the Midwest.

“We were very fortunate to be able to continue to raise funds throughout the two-year pandemic, thanks to people’s unbelievable willingness to donate. Last year we were able to have the run as restrictions were lifted, but this year we were really back and able to offer the full Tractor Run experience,” said organiser Carrie Bourke.

“Thank you all for your continued support year on year. A massive thank you to everyone who took part, helped us and sponsored us. We could not do it without you,” Carrie added.
