The organisation is asking the Limerick community to help support residents who will spend their holiday in a Direct Provision Centre in Limerick and Clare this Christmas. By donating towards their Direct Provision Christmas Appeal, you can help to provide every adult in Direct Provision with phone credit to make calls to contact their family and loved ones.

Direct Provision is the current system of accommodating asylum seekers in Ireland. Asylum seekers are housed in residential institutions known as Direct Provision centres across the country, with 35 centres in total. Seven of the centres are State-owned but the majority of the centres are run on a for-profit basis by private contractors. It is intended to provide for the basic needs of asylum seekers as their asylum applications are being processed.

Monika Fallon, Communication and Coordination Officer said the initiative for this Christmas appeal is to give people of Direct Provision an opportunity to contact their loved ones this holiday season.

“Christmas is such an important time for people in Ireland, well, that would be a nice gesture and raising fund for phone credits will be useful for everyone,” said Monika.

If you would like to the support the Christmas Appeal for phone credit, there are different methods to help.

Buy €10 phone credit voucher for Three mobile network, available at most local shops and Three mobile stores. Or to Buy €10 phone credit voucher for Lycamobile (international calls) available from select shops in Limerick and post or deliver to Doras Luimní during December. They then distribute these vouchers to the Direct Provision centres across Limerick and Clare before the Christmas holidays.
