Free Hazardous Waste Disposal for Limerick Residents

Free Hazardous waste Disposal is  being offered to Limerick residents from The Environment section of Limerick City and County Council.  Householders across Limerick are being encouraged to avail of an upcoming opportunity to dispose of their hazardous domestic waste free of charge.

The Environment section of Limerick City and County Council has teamed up with Indaver and the Southern Region Waste Management Office to operate the drop off days place at Kilmallock and Newcastlewest Recycling Centres from 10.00am to 4.45pm on Saturday, January 30, and at Mungret Recycling Centre and Park Road Depot from 10.00am to 4.45pm on Saturday, February 6.

Waste items including household aerosols, oil filters, adhesives, medicines, cosmetics, pesticides/biocides, household basic/acidic cleaners, cooking/car oils, plastic oil containers (up to 5 litres), paint tins (up to 5 tins, €2.00/tin thereafter), fluorescent tubes, lamps and light bulbs, and batteries (up to 2kg, over 2kg €10 each) can be deposited during the drop-off days. Standard gate fees will apply for other recyclable materials.

“By hosting these free of charge drop-off days, we are providing householders throughout Limerick with an opportunity to dispose of their hazardous wastes in a manner that protects human health and the environment,” explained Sinead McDonnell, Environmental Awareness Officer, Limerick City and County Council.

“The service is being provided free of charge to householders only for listed items along with electrical waste and electronic equipment and batteries. Householders are being reminded that each waste type brought to the four drop-off locations must be clearly identifiable, segregated and packaged to avoid leaks and minimise risks,” added Ms. McDonnell.

The one-day events, which are funded by the Department of the Environment, Heritage & Local Government, will be staffed by Indaver on behalf of Limerick City and County Council’s Environment section.
