Following its opening in early May, the International Rugby Experience (IRE) has received more exciting news with the awarding of the ISO 20121 certification.

ISO 20121 is an international standard for sustainable event management, created by the International Organisation for Standardisation and certified by the National Standards Authority of Ireland (NSAI). It shows that an event or an organisation can become more socially responsible and reduce its environmental footprint, all while continuing to be financially successful.

To achieve this, the Experience implemented a number of steps including; making efforts to eliminate single use plastics, participating in local community initiatives such as Team Limerick Clean-Up and at every opportunity, procuring products and services from sustainable companies and sources.

Congratulating the International Rugby Experience on securing certification to ISO 20121 Sustainable Events, the Head of Business Excellence with NSAI, Stewart Hickey, said: “Achieving independent third-party certification demonstrates long-term commitment to sustainability and it strengthens International Rugby Experience’s reputation in this area. This can enhance relationships with clients, suppliers, the local community as well as other national and international stakeholders.”

Speaking about the achievement, Operations Manager Tracy Deane commented: “We are delighted to have been certified to ISO 20121. Our vision from the start was to operate a world class visitor experience, with our environmental impact to the forefront of our minds. Now that we’ve successfully implemented the standard, we will be looking at continuously improving on our high standards year on year.”

The news comes soon after a recent double win, as the IRE was crowned the 2023 Royal Institute of Architects of Ireland (RIAI) Public Choice Award winner, and also landed the first ever RIAI award for Cultural and Public Buildings.

Officially opened in May, The Experience is Inspired by World Rugby’s values of Passion, Discipline, Integrity, Solidarity and Respect. Visitors will hear the stories, feel the passion and test their own skills as they move through six, awe-inspiring stages inside the state of the art building. Using leading custom-made real-time software coupled with the expert knowledge of Jock Peggie, Head of Education, Laws and Compliance at World Rugby, the interactive experience delivers a truly authentic and exciting reflection of the game.

Tickets are priced at just €10 for children (under 18) and €15 for adults. Walk ins are welcome or tickets can be purchased online.

The International Rugby Experience tours, retail space and cafe are open seven days a week from 9.30am to 6pm, with the last tour starting at 4.30pm.
