The Lauren Memorial Cycle from Malin to Mizen has been a huge success and raised an amazing total of €62,836 total, with proceeds going to two amazing charities, Little Blue Heroes and Cliona Foundation. Both charities will receive €31,418 each.

A group of 14 cycling friends  set off on Saturday, September 16, 2023 from Askeaton, Co Limerick, for an epic 665km, six day trip, in memory of an amazing beautiful young lady Lauren McGrath who tragically passed away from cancer at the tender age of only 16 in 2022.

Lauren battled cancer on five occasions before sadly losing her battle in 2022. She had to deal with epilepsy as well as an amputation to her leg but battled bravely until the end.

The charities, Cliona’s Foundation and Little Blue Heroes were a huge source of comfort and help to Niall and his family throughout Lauren’s illness.

Little Blue Heroes Foundation’s vision is to support families of children with serious illnesses in Ireland while empowering the lives of children through positive community engagement.

The group pursues this vision by providing practical and financial support to families of children who have serious illnesses in Ireland while granting the wish of the children it supports to become Honorary Gardaí to empower the child and foster positive engagement with An Garda Síochána.

Clionas raise vital funds that make a huge difference to the lives of families in Limerick and across Ireland caring for a seriously sick child while also raising awareness around the struggles associated with caring for a sick child.

This cycle was organised, to help fundraise for these worthy charities that provide so much assistance to families throughout their child’s illnesses and all money raised from the cycle will be split evenly between those incredible charities.

The cyclists were a small group of friends from Co Limerick, who are all keen cyclists and had the idea on their bucket list idea for some time. Lauren’s father Niall was the main organiser of this cycle and also one of the cyclists.

On September 16, 2023 they started their cycle from Malin head to Mizen head, a total of 665km over six days. They had 16 cyclists doing the full cycle, with the aim to have friends join them along the route when they could. The full trip was funded by the group including the purchase of their jerseys. The donations received will go directly to the charities and nothing was used to pay for the cycle event.

Clionas Foundation said, “this amazing crew who today completed their Malin to Mizen challenge of 665km over 6 days in memory  of 16 year old Lauren Mc Grath who lost her 13 year battle with cancer last year. A huge well done and thank you to all who cycled, supported, sponsored and donated. We are extremely privileged, humbled and grateful to be a beneficiary along with Little Blue Heroes and are blown away by the support of so many.”
