Limerick Gospel choir are preparing to hold their annual Charity Christmas Concert ‘A Feast of Christmas Songs & Carols’.  Each year the concert has been more successful than the last and has become a festive tradition now with the choir. Triona O’Connor who is the PRO of the choir said, “It is always an exciting event each year for us and something we really look forward to, we love the build-up and preparation and the event itself is always such a treat to be a part of, it is a great feeling that we can give back to the community especially during the Christmas season.”

The charity they have chosen this year is the Northstar Family Support Project. Northstar Family Support Project is a community-based project providing non-judgmental, respectful support to people over the age of 18 who are affected by and trying to cope with a family member’s substance misuse, throughout the Limerick region. Northstar Family Support Project was established in 2008 in response to the growing need for support for families dealing with substance misuse within the family system.

Northstar offer one on one support, peer and educational groups, access to counselling and other holistic therapies. The focus of these interventions is to provide space and time for families to work through the different feelings they are experiencing and to look at the ways they are responding to their loved ones and how those actions are affecting them and other family members. The charity does this work by providing one on one support, information, stress management, peer-led support groups, access to counselling, holistic therapies, etc. They provide time and space for families to speak freely without judgement.
