On Sunday 18th December, Limerick Gospel Choir (along with special guests Niall Hehir and Orla Smith) hosted a special event in St. Michael’s Church in Denmark Street to both kickstart the festive feeling among the community and to fundraise for the very worthwhile NOVAS Initiatives. The Limerick Gospel Choir Novas Fundraiser was a great success and highly supported by the community.

Limerick Gospel Choir, directed by David Idioh, proudly support a locally based charity annually at their festive Christmas concert, and the 2016 selected charity was NOVAS Initiatives. NOVAS provide many services in the Mid-West and supporting their Cold Weather Service especially appealed to members of Limerick Gospel Choir. The concert itself was a festive and joyous occasion, with special moments being provided by soloists such as Ronnie Dawnson with ‘Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas’, and of course a special invitation extended to children in the audience to come join the choir for some very special Christmas songs. The future of music in Limerick is very strong- these children have talent dripping from their tiny fingers.

The bucket collection at the event gathered over €1,200, and Una Burns of NOVAS Initiatives was blown away by the support of both the Limerick Gospel Choir and those attending the event. The money was used directly towards the support of initiatives such as the cold weather service, which assists clients who find themselves homeless and in need of help. NOVAS and Limerick Gospel Choir would like to thank all who helped with this event, and of course all those who contributed to the bucket collection. This was the largest collection gathered in recent years and made a great difference to the lives of those involved with NOVAS services.
