Monica Leddin will be joining athletes from all around the world at the world’s largest marathon taking place on November 5 this year.

The New York City Marathon runs through all five boroughs of the Big Apple and last year broke the record for most finishers of the marathon with 51,934 people crossing the line. This year over 98,000 people have applied for the marathon.

Monica said of her decision to run the New York City Marathon: “My driving force and goal is to raise funds for Crumlin Hospital. Dalata Hotel Group PLC are delighted to partner with CMRF Crumlin as our charity of choice.”

“CMRF Crumlin is the principal fundraising body for Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital Crumlin as well as the National Children’s Research Centre and is dedicated to working to improve the quality of life for these and future generations of sick children, they do such a great and important job and I am proud to raise funds for this charity”

Monica also broke down how her training is going so far: “The training is going great. As a long time runner, I have enjoyed the challenge of committing to a full marathon.”

She added: “A typical training week would be a 19 mile run on Monday, 3 mile run on Tuesday, Wednesday as a rest day, a 9 or 10 mile run on Thursday with a high impact gym run on Friday. I take Saturday as another rest day and finish the weeks training with a 6 mile run on Sunday.”

Finally, Monica talked about the struggles of balancing training for the world’s largest marathon and having a family: “I have kept my goal plan very simple and very manageable. That is the key to success especially when you have a young family and work commitments. It is very important to make sure that the plan works around every aspect that makes up your life.”
