Limerick woman raises over 12k for Multiple Sclerosis Ireland

Limerick woman Marie O’Connor raised over €12,000 for Multiple Sclerosis Ireland after cycling 2,500km along the Wild Atlantic Way.

Marie set off on her 25 day cycle form Kinsale, County Cork and travelled around the “Wild Atlantic Way” throughout the west coast of Ireland eventually finishing her journey, Monday August 16 in Derry.

Multiple Sclerosis Ireland is a charity close to home for Marie so the journey through the Wild Atlantic Way and the money raised is truly remarkable and will be of invaluable help to this charity.

“My father, John, has multiple sclerosis and from his association with the MS Society I have seen the wonderful services and supports that are provided, helping people with multiple sclerosis throughout Ireland.” explains Marie.

The money raised was through multiple events and donations, Marie also received a lot of support from the teachers and pupils at Hazelwood College, Dromcollogher where she teaches biology.

She also hopes to fundraise over €13,000 by the end of this week for this well deserved charity.

Marie met fellow cyclists along her 25 day journey and was greeted by the hospitality and kindness of strangers everywhere she travelled. She was also able to soak up the breath taking scenery along the west coast of Ireland.

Marie arrived at the Maldron Hotel in Derry where she was greeted to her delight, by a deserved champagne reception. She was also given a free nights accomadation upon arrival in Derry.

The exasperated cyclist eventually arrived back to Limerick by car and rightfully slept for two days straight.
