What makes you a proud Limerick woman?

I’m a country girl and have lived all my life in Limerick. I would class myself as a real proud home bird. The way we have all pulled together in the last few months during Covid has definitely made me prouder than ever to be from Limerick. Every family had to endure individual sacrifices but everyone knuckled down and did what they had to and I have no doubt that Limerick people will continue with that effort. Things will get better.

Tell me about your job and what you love most about it?

I am the Manager at Neville Jewellers at the Crescent Shopping Centre. I have been there for two and a half years and I couldn’t be prouder of the team here in Limerick. At Neville Jewellers we stock jewellery watches and accessories for every occasion and also have an extensive online catalogue that can be ordered from in store. I am so proud of being able to participate in people’s lifetime occasions in a little way and help them feel comfortable and look fabulous all in one. I love being able to help people celebrate big and little occasions. It’s all about putting that smile on the customer’s faces; it’s a real buzz of excitement.

How did the business cope during COVID?

I think the biggest hurdle was just getting the ok from the authorities to open and then it was just a case of being in a position to protect both our staff and customers. Every business had to make adjustments but again it’s the people that make it easy and all our customers have been fantastic in every way. With guidelines in place we were delighted that we could offer our Inverness ear piercing service again, it more popular than ever I think that is because while wearing a mask you can still show off the earrings in fact many people are now going for multiple piercings.

What work achievements are you proud of?

I was recently awarded my Advanced Training Certificate from Inverness. I am the first person in Ireland to achieve this accreditation. The certificate means I can officially train people to pierce ears, despite piercing fifteen years I am now qualified to teach others to do it too. Being a qualified trainer for ear piercing is a great addition to our business and honestly, I am so happy to achieve this. Over the last eighteen months a local Limerick company, Cosmetic Alliance has supplied us with our ear piercing equipment which has absolutely surpassed all expectations. Inverness system has been a dream to work alongside and this just adds a whole new dimension for Neville Jewellers and will allow us to expand the Inverness range to our other four stores, we are also now looking at a full range for men piercings. Our bestseller is a very neutral little stud as it’s a very good size that suits both adults and kids, it’s only €34.99 it’s a clear stone so it suits everything, and that includes aftercare lotion, piercing and earrings!

What’s the story of Inverness?

The Inverness Ear Piercing System is the safest most technologically advanced ear piercing, trusted for 40 years, in over 34 countries having pierced over 200 million pairs of ears. Our difference is the earring capsules are packaged in sealed, sterilised cartridges that are not opened until selected for piercing. Unlike other systems on the market, our earrings are never exposed until they are safely inserted in the ear, specially designed with ultra-thin piercing posts and a finely honed piercing tip helping the earrings glide through the lobe. Most people report they feel no discomfort at all when they are pierced with the Inverness System.

Any tips for customers?

In the current climate, it’s tough for people so if you do decide to come in to get your ear pierced, remember to take photos or videos for the other family members who can’t be with you to celebrate this happy milestone with you. Prices start from just €25 and you get free aftercare, piercing and earrings!

What advice would you give to other Limerick women in business?

Just go for it. If you fail, just take the learnings and go again. We just need to be confident and always reach out to others for help along the way, never be afraid to seek out a hand or two! Women in business and life must lean on each other. I love my girls!

What’s your favourite thing about Limerick?

I love the people! I love the People’s Park and Lough Gur equally. Both places are immaculately kept and great amenities for the people of Limerick. One of my favourite Limerick memories took place at the Gaelic Grounds on Munster final day, when we beat Cork in 2013. Now that was a day I was a real proud Limerick woman!
