Imbolc exhibition kicks off Seachtain Brigid celebrations at Treaty City Brewery running up to Thursday, February 8
LSAD Exhibition Society and Treaty City Brewery have joined together for the ‘Imbolc’ exhibition kicking off ‘Seachtain Brigid’ celebrations.
The festival showcases diverse artworks running up to Thursday, February 8 and aims to celebrate women and non-binary artists while supporting a charitable cause.
The ‘Seachtain Brigid’ festival, organised by Treaty City Brewery, is a platform to honour the spirit of St Brigid with all donations raised from the week-long event benefitting GOSHH and Thomond House.
In a post on Instagram, Treat city Brewery said, “Join us for a savage week of amazing events focused on the spirit of St Brigid! You can reserve your spot or our website for limited capacity events.
“We’re calling for donations of sealed period products for women in poverty OR donate directly to GOSHH for their invaluable and free services throughout the week.”
The LSAD Exhibition Society spearheaded the collaboration with efforts from Chairperson James Wellwood and Vice-Chairperson Michaela Greaney, along with committee members Nina Achtelik, and Aoife O’Neill.
The society curated an exhibition centred around themes of identity and experience while putting emphasis on having the voices of women and non-binary artists heard.
The opening night of the exhibition featured an engaging open mic poetry reading hosted by the LSAD Poetry Society, and attendees were treated to spoken word performances.
Speaking at the launch, Michaela Greaney said, “This exhibition intends to shine a light on women and non-binary artists. What really links this exhibition together is the artists’ experiences, their own personal experiences, their community’s experiences, and channelling those into a form of expression. This exhibition intends to be a celebration, so let’s celebrate!”
They noted that St Brigid being a patron saint of scholars, “What better way to celebrate than listening to some beautiful poetry.”
The event runs up to Thursday, February 8, and attendees are encouraged to make a donation if possible to an event celebrating artists and St Brigid who often represents important messages of feminism.
