Shannon Region Conference and Sports Bureau conference ambassador recruitment events at Mary Immaculate College and University of Limerick aid academics in winning international conferences
Shannon Region Conference and Sports Bureau and Fáilte Ireland recently collaborated with both Mary Immaculate College and University of Limerick on an ambassador recruitment drive to bring more international conferences to the region.
As part of the academic recruitment drive, academic staff were treated to afternoon tea and a presentation on the benefits of bringing an international conference to the region.
Karen Ronan, Manager of Shannon Region Conference and Sports Bureau called for the staff of the colleges to “bring it home” the next time an opportunity to bid for a conference is available.
Danielle Devaney of Shannon Region Conference and Sports Bureau said, “We are thrilled to work with the conference management teams in both Mary Immaculate College and the University of Limerick on such an important initiative. Research shows that each conference delegate is worth approximately €1,883 to the local economy, which is of huge economic value to Limerick.’’
Danielle told I Love Limerick, “We’re the official events bureau for Ireland’s Shannon region, so we’re responsible for bringing large international sporting events and conferences to the Shannon region. We have a very successful conference ambassador programme that we run in conjunction with Fáilte Ireland.”
She explained “economic impacts of these large international events are absolutely huge” with more than €1,880 being brought to the local economy per delegate, noting, ” to be bringing that here to the region, everybody feels the benefits of it from the hotels, the different tourism and cultural attractions.”
Danielle said, “That’s why we’re here to try and encourage people to come and talk to us about the different supports that we can offer and how we’re able to help.”
Shauna Fitzgerald of Failte Ireland said, “Through its Conference Ambassador Programme, Fáilte Ireland offers a full suite of support, both practical and financial, to potential Ambassadors, and together with their partners in the Shannon Region Conference and Sports Bureau, will support an academic throughout their journey from bid to event execution.”
Danielle Devaney of Shannon Region Conference and Sports Bureau added, “The Bureau has created a dedicated bid book that academic staff can use when bidding for a conference.”
The Shannon Region Conference and Sports Bureau is a public-private partnership and the official events bureau for Ireland’s Shannon Region.
