The PTSB Community Fund, an initiative designed to support local communities across Ireland, is offering approximately €200,000 in funding to be shared among six local charities across Irish regions, all chosen by voters.

St Gabriel’s Foundation, with its decades-long commitment to serving children with disabilities in Limerick and the Mid-West region, is vying for a spot among the chosen charities, hoping to expand its impact and reach in the community.

Established in 1961, St Gabriel’s Foundation operates as a not-for-profit organization and registered charity, guided by a voluntary Board of Directors dedicated to their cause.

The impact of St Gabriel’s can be seen when speaking to the people who experience the services on a daily basis. One pupil at the school, Daniel, said that his favourite thing about attending St Gabriel’s School was “meeting with my friends”. Daniel said, “Just talking to people, getting all the help I need, and just having fun really.”

“Sometimes I could feel a bit tired, but I get through the day. That’s what matters at the end of the day, this place gives you energy,” said Daniel before asking for the public to vote in the competition saying, “It will help out a lot of people.”

St Gabriel’s provides services to over 2000 children through two Children’s Disability Network Teams, Hydrotherapy, Orthotics, and a state-of-the-art Children’s Respite House in Mungret.

Treasa McAulliffe, St Gabriel’s Foundation CEO explained, “We have over 2,000 children that we support within the Midwest. As we all know, it’s all over the news and the media, that disability services can’t provide enough services for their children. St Gabriel’s is always striving to provide extra and additional supports for the families and this would be a huge support.”

St. Gabriel’s listens to the needs of the families it works with and strives to deliver services to families on their doorstep so families do not have to travel outside of Limerick to receive them.

With voting well underway for the PTSB Community Fund, St Gabriel’s is urging the public to rally behind its cause and vote in their support.

Treasa called on the public to “please, please, please vote”, and she gave a promise to the public should they win, “Give us your support and we promise we will put it to good use for the families within your own area.”

Being selected as one of the top two charities in the region would not only support St Gabriel’s in carrying out their vital work, but would also be testament to the support and gratitude of the community it tirelessly serves.

Voting, which is open online through the PTSB website and mobile app for PTSB customers will close on Friday, February 23 at 6pm.
