Building on the huge success of a creative writing project last year, Story Seeds: Adventures across Limerick & Beyond, Volume 2 has engaged the storytelling abilities of children on Limerick’s north side.

This collection of new stories was compiled by children from seven primary schools in Limerick City and Co. Clare from October to December 2023.

It focuses on the positive aspects of the communities where the children live and play. It is one of many projects run by Fighting Words, a Dublin-based creative writing organisation, founded by Roddy Doyle and Seán Love.

Library staff at Watch House Cross Library in Moyross facilitated and co-ordinated creative writing workshops and created wonderful illustrations for the stories.

This project is funded by Creative Ireland and Limerick City and County Council through Creative Ireland Made in Limerick.

Each story is full of action and fun starring a huge range of inventive characters in adventures from New York to the Oval office, from waterfalls to secret lairs, tacos and lots of cheese!

Mayor of the City and County of Limerick, Cllr Gerald Mitchell praised the initiative saying: “Congratulations to all the young writers for a fantastic achievement. These pupils put a huge amount of effort into this project and should be very proud of becoming published authors. Special mention must be made of library staff, Michelle Dunning, Sarah D’Arcy and Shauna Callanan, without whom the project would not be possible.”

The books will be available for borrowing from any Limerick Libraries branch in the coming weeks. A number of copies have been delivered to the schools directly for the children to enjoy in their classrooms.

The Limerick schools involved were JFK Memorial School, Corpus Christi Primary School, Thomond Primary School, Christ the King Boys National School, Salesian Primary School and Mary Queen of Ireland Girls National School in Limerick, and Meelick Primary School in County Clare.
