Daughters of Charity and Limerick Youth Theatre Take Away Time

Take Away Time (The Creative Show), is the third year the collaborative project between members of Limerick Youth Theatre (LYT) and the Daughters of Charity (DOC) will run. DOC services provide a comprehensive range of person centred services for adults and children with intellectual disability and were the first to establish day services in Limerick. The goal of each centre is to provide individually tailored supports and create opportunities that allow person to reach their full potential and integrate into their community. The project has given over 60 service users from the DOC and LYT members interested in theatre and dance a chance to be involved in staging a production from auditions, rehearsals through to performing at the Lime Tree Theatre on June10 & 11. Donal Sherlock, from the DOC tells me, “This collaboration provides a platform that allows each service user to integrate into the LYT dance and theatrical programmes. It gives an opportunity to showcase their unique talents and abilities to the wider community as well as enhancing the quality of their lives, increasing independence, improving self-esteem, confidence and motivation. The link with LYT has helped us to heighten greater community awareness and develop sustainable community programmes.’ Take Away Time (The Creative Show) is a unique piece of performance written and directed by Myles Breen with movement pieces devised and choreographed by Angie Smalis of LYT.  Over a period of 10 weeks, Limerick Youth Theatre members and service users from DOC have been working together to create this family friendly show and an eclectic mix of theatre and dance which will showcase the talents of all involved and should not be missed!
