The awards, sponsored by the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage recognise and celebrate the outstanding work being carried out by Local Authorities all over Ireland.  

The shortlisted Limerick City and County Council projects and their awards category are Crafting Connections for Age-Friendly Initiative; Limerick’s First School Street – An Mhodhscoil for Climate Change; Limerick Student City for Communications; Limerick on Foot for Health & Wellbeing; and HAP APP for Local Authority Innovation.

Also shortlisted were Regeneration Community Jobs Fair for Municipal District Initiative; Engine Collaboration Centre for Promoting Economic Development; Student Planners: Inspiring Future Generations for Supporting Sustainable Communities; Discover Limerick for Supporting Tourism; and Decarbonising Together for Sustaining the Arts.

Mayor of the City and County of Limerick, Cllr Gerald Mitchell said, “I want to congratulate everyone involved in the shortlisted projects. It is great to see so many initiatives from the hardworking staff at Limerick City and County Council being recognised by Chambers Ireland. These projects are just a small sample of the great work being carried out in collaboration with other stakeholders across the county to improve quality of life for us all.”

Chief Executive of Limerick City and County Council, Dr Pat Daly said, “Limerick City and County Council continues to be at the forefront of innovation. The projects that have been shortlisted for these prestigious awards run the gamut from environmental to healthy living, economic development, tourism and the arts.

“These projects reflect the Council’s community-focused approach, our drive to foster entrepreneurial spirit and our goals of creating a vibrant living city, towns and villages while enhancing Limerick’s profile nationally and internationally.”

The 2023 Excellence in Local Government Awards will be presented at an event in Dublin in November.
