Rape Crisis Midwest is delighted to announce they are holding an awareness and fundraising event, with a twist.  Walk a mile in her shoes is an international men’s march to stop rape, sexual assault and gender violence.  They are inviting local men to put on a pair of high heel shoes and walk a mile to help raise awareness about the prevalence of sexual violence in our society and more importantly, to make it stop.  One in five women in this country has experienced sexual assault in adulthood (SAVI, 2002).

The event will take place at The Pavilion on the University of Limerick campus, Saturday, April 26th.  The walk will start at 5pm and go around the Astroturf pitches starting at the Pavilion.  Although it is recommended that men pre-register for the walk, there will be an opportunity to register at the Pavilion bar and restaurant on the day from 3:30pm.  Wearing the high heel shoes is optional!  Men who are brave enough will be charged €10 and men who want to take part but not wear the heels will be charged €15.  The shoes are provided and sponsorship cards also are available.  Log on to www.rapecrisis.ie to register.  All proceeds will go the Rape Crisis Midwest.  Women and children can walk for free.

As pictured, the lovely men from Limerick City Fire and Rescue were keen to help out and raise awareness.  They have also agreed to attend the event and will even bring one of their fire engines!  There will be entertainment on the day and a special guest MC.  The Pavilion bar and restaurant will also be providing free tea and coffee for participants after the walk.
