The public is asked to put its gardening skills to the test with Limerick Going for Gold’s 2023 Most Beautiful Front Garden Competition

Applications are being sought after The Most Beautiful Front Garden Competition category was launched by the Mayor of the City and County of Limerick, Councillor Gerald Mitchell at the Council’s Medieval Garden in Merchants Quay.

Mayor Mitchell said: “Gardening is good for our well-being and provides valuable pockets of habitat for wildlife throughout our city and county. When a garden is visible from a public road it also brightens our community.  I would like to thank the Parkway Shopping Centre for their continued organising and support of this category of the Limerick Going for Gold competition.”

The Most Beautiful Front Garden Competition is sponsored by the Parkway Shopping Centre and judged by the Parkway Shopping Centre and the Limerick Post. Judging takes place from mid-August until early September, with the winner being announced at the gala Limerick Going for Gold awards in October.

Also speaking at the launch Roger Beck, Manager of the Parkway Shopping Centre said: “The Parkway Shopping Centre is always pleased to sponsor the Most Beautiful Front Garden Competition as part of Limerick Going for Gold initiative. Each year it is a delight to discover new and amazing gardens around the city and county.  The judges always have a very hard job deciding on the winners.  I look forward to getting out and about the length and breadth of Limerick myself over the coming weeks, and visiting some creative and beautiful gardens.”

Forms are available from the Parkway Shopping Centre, Limerick City and County Council’s Customer Services or for download from Limerick.ie.

The deadline date for entry is Friday 4th August.

To qualify for the competition the garden must be visible from a public road, and a minimum of two photographs must be submitted with each application form. The first round of judging will be done based on the photographs provided, so please ensure that your photographs are of good quality to assist the judges in their deliberations

Also, a location map (and GPS Co-ordinates/ Eircode) must be submitted with each application form. This can be hand drawn and must indicate where the garden is located

Completed application forms to be sent by post to: Most Beautiful Front Garden Competition, Manager’s Office, Parkway Shopping Centre, Dublin Road, Limerick.
