Last September, the Sean Kelly Three Counties Cycle completed its third edition. The cycle is an annual one day cycle sportive event that raises funds for Down Syndrome Limerick.

The legendary cyclist, Sean Kelly who is ranked Number 2 cyclist in the world, not only lends his name to the event but also turns up each year to cycle with the participants. Over 500 cyclists joined Kelly on the roads around Limerick, Clare and Tipperary for this event in 2023.  The cycle raised over €110,000 for local Limerick charity, Down Syndrome Limerick, which is the biggest fundraiser they have ever been involved with in the history of the charity.

Michelle Coughlan, Chairperson of Down Syndrome Limerick said, “What an amazing day for us in Down Syndrome Limerick to be presented with a cheque of this magnitude from the Sean Kelly Three Counties Cycle.  Thank you to everyone who participated, to Sean Kelly for his involvement, and to all who volunteered or contributed in any way to this event.

“The money raised from the event is being used to fund a third Speech and Language Therapist at Down Syndrome Limerick.  We want to ensure that all our members receive access to this vital therapy when they need it without being subjected to a waiting list. It’s these services that help us achieve our objective of helping people with Down syndrome achieve their full potential”.

Sean Kelly, cyclist said, “I am delighted to be involved with the Sean Kelly Three Counties Cycle event. The organising committee spend a lot of time planning the event to ensure that cyclists have a great day out.  But it is great to see that hard work culminating in the great funds raised for Down Syndrome Limerick. Thanks to all involved.  Looking forward to 2024”.

The 2024 edition of the Sean Kelly Three Counties Cycle will take place on 15th September 2024 and will start from TUS Moylish Campus in Limerick.  Registration for the event opens on February 16th.
