The Clionas Foundation 24hr kart race will take place at WhiteRiver Park Kart Racing Circuit, located between Drogheda and Dundalk, has hosted three annual 24hr karting races.
In association with Teesside Karting, 70mph BIZ Pro-Karts are supplied for every team. The entry fee covered the Kart Hire, fuel, tyres, accident damage, servicing and repairs. A limited number of race suits and helmets can also be rented for the race. The race can be entered in teams of 3 to 10 drivers, and no racing license is needed.
The organisers are hoping that this fundraising event can be bolstered by donations to the GoFundMe page set up by the people behind Limerick-based Cliona’s Foundation so they can continue to help families get through their toughest times.
Phil Deegan, Marketing and Fundraising Coordinator for Cliona’s Foundation said, “This is a first ever for us to be involved in a very significant 24hr Karting Race and we are really looking forward to seeing the drivers in what will be an action packed 24 hours.
What is particularly special for us is that we were nominated as beneficiary by a family from Navan that we supported in 2019 and the dad and some of their family will be representing Cliona’s in the event
This is the 3rd fundraising event that they have been involved with for us and is very uplifting for us to know that they really appreciate our support at the time. So, a huge thank you to that family but also the team at Whiteriver Park in Dunleer, Co. Louth.”
Cliona’s Foundation is a national charity with their office in Limerick set up by Brendan and Terry Ring, following the unfortunate passing of their daughter Cliona, from an inoperable brain tumour in 2006.
As their daughter underwent various hospital treatments, Brendan and Terry were struck by the number of families facing immense financial hardship due to non-medical expenses piling up.
After seeing the toll this took on families who were already struggling with have an ill child, they decided to take action and set up Cliona’s Foundation in honour of their daughter.
The charity provides financial assistance directly to parents of children with life-limiting or chronic complex care needs across Ireland to help with the non-medical expenses related to caring for their child. Such costs include transport, accommodation, travel, car parking, specialist equipment and much more.
It costs approximately €10,000 per annum to care for a child with a long-term life-limiting illness. Cliona’s Foundation has supported more than 900 families over the past 14 years and receives no government funding.
Cliona’s Foundation take part in numerous events and fundraisers in order to reach the funds they need to help families. Some of these include the Cliona’s Foundation annual celebratory night, the Limerick Racecourse family fun race day event and much more. Cliona’s Foundation started off 2015 by breaking the Marathon Relay Record and have entered the Guinness World Record books.
Cliona’s Foundation rely 100% on income raised through a range of activities including events and fundraising, corporate donations, philanthropy and private donations and partnerships with other charities.
