Maddie unfortunately passed away in April this year after a long battle with an illness. For her treatment, Maddie travelled from Corbally to Crumlin many times where she received support from some of the most caring people in St John’s Ward in Crumlin Children’s Hospital.

To say thanks for all the amazing work the nurses and the doctors of Crumlin Hospital, Shane and Sean have chosen to cycle the journey Maddie took numerous times to raise money for the St John’s Ward Crumlin through Aoibheann’s Pink Tie charity.

Aoibheann’s Pink Tie ‘National Children’s Cancer Charity’ was set up in 2010 to remedy the lack of support for children and families going through treatment.

The charity recognizes that travelling to and from the hospital and overnight stays consumes all waking moments during treatment and day-to-day necessities become difficult to manage.

The charity helps and offers practical support to the families of children diagnosed with cancer and are attending St John’s Oncology Ward in Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital.

They aim to provide practical and financial support to children who are suffering from cancer and their families. They embrace the particular needs of children and their families during their battle with cancer, providing the support to allow the family to focus on their wellbeing, their support of each other and the treatment of their child.

The cyclists will depart from Maddie’s front door on Saturday, July 23 in Corbally Limerick and will undertake the journey to Crumlin.

The family are asking people to donate whatever they can in memory of Maddie and the amazing people of the Crumlin Hospital. So far, they have raised an amazing €12,585 out of their €2,000 goal.
